Indigenous Model Samantha Harris – June 2010 Vogue Covergirl
Indigenous model Samantha Harris has landed the coveted cover of the June 2010 issue of Vogue onsale today. She is only the second Aboriginal model to appear on the cover of the fashion bible, the first being Elaine George in 1993.
It is very rare to see a black model on the Australian cover of a magazine (not including celebrities and singers). Mia Freedman let us in on an industry secret back in 2005 that black models apparently do not sell magazines.
Naomi Campbell is an outspoken advocate of more racial diversity in the fashion industry and constantly speaks out about the lack of representation of black models.
Curly Like Me book review …
As some of you know, I have naturally curly hair. Growing up with afro curly hair in the ’80s was not as easy as it sounds.
Blessed with corkscrew curls and an unruly mane that no comb could tame, I tried every hair product on the limited Australian market to control my curls.
As the ’80s perm became passé, I realised that I was one of only a few waving the naturally curly hair flag.

The Sartorialist is a famous fashion blog created by blogger, Scott Schuman who released a coffee book of his photographs late last year.

Go nude in spring/summer 09
The word nude usually brings up images of celebrities desperate to get their kit off in a bid to launch or revive a dying career. Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian and the latest Vanessa Hudgens photo scandal spring to mind … (yawn) but this spring/summer 09 fashion trend embodies a whole different meaning.
Fashionista or fashion victim?
Giorgio Armani apparently once said that “When a woman alters her look too much from season to season, she becomes a fashion victim.” Admittedly, most of us have been a fashion victim at some point in our lives – either buying clothing that don’t fit, sacrificing our bodies for uncomfortable clothes or shoes, walking down the street in a short skirt or open toed shoes in sub zero conditions or buying a smaller size in the off chance we lose weight. Jump into spring …
Jumpsuits are gracing Spring 2009 collections from the likes of Dolce and Gabbana, Stella McCartney and Gucci and are a key look for Spring/Summer 09. There is something quite childlike and innocent about the jumpsuit or the aptly named shorter playsuit.
It brings you back to your childhood; hopscotch, pigtails and having a crush on the boy next door. You may never get that dream job or marry your childhood sweetheart but at least now whatever you’re doing, you can look good doing it.
