A woman’s right to choose …

Beautiful women over 40 with long, fabulous hair

I was reading MX magazine, which is the train version of an in-flight magazine. It’s meant to be lighthearted reading and generally doesn’t seek to cause train rage or dissent amongst commuters. However, reading MX last Friday almost sent me over the edge.

It contained an article on some of the most beautiful women in the world such as Elle McPherson, Liz Hurly, Demi Moore and Jerry Hall suggesting that they cut their crowning glory because they were too deemed too old to have long hair, no doubt by some Generation Y reporter barely out of university. I’m so surprised they didn’t drag the ‘mutton dressed as lamb’ clique out while they were at it.

The phrase ‘life begins at 40’ was coined for a reason. A woman doesn’t lose her femininity when she reaches the age of 40, nor does she lose her sex drive or the desire to look beautiful. At a certain age, you have earnt the right to say and do what you like with your hair.

We live in an era where man can walk on the moon, we have cloned a sheep, women can have babies well into their forties and same sex marriages are allowed in certain countries but society still feels they can dictate how a woman should look in their forties and beyond.

The days of the blue rinse being the only option for older women is over. Make sure you’re tressed for success and wear a style that suits the shape of your face, the texture of your hair and most importantly, your lifestyle. As all women over the age of 30 know, length does matter.

It’s ridiculous isn’t it. A woman can have any length hair she wants regardless of age.

Us women should be allowed to do as we wish with our hair. Putting stupid rules out there is infuriating and dissing others on how they look also.
Are we so shallow? We should let others do as they like! What about hte inside?
Well written article, i totally agree!
