The Bingle effect …

I was reading an interview with Candace Bushnell a few weeks ago in the Sydney Morning Herald. She was being interviewed about her new book ‘One Fifth Avenue’ which is about a 19 year old whose life is shaped by ‘Sex and the City’ which for those of who have been living under a rock, is a television series based on a series of columns written by Bushnell in The New York Observer. What struck me in particular is what she said in the article about Australia.

Sex and the City finally debuted in Australia today. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love Sex and the City as much as the next woman. However, it’s just a movie and not a reflection of real life. I’m not giving anything away that Carrie is dating Mr Big in the movie. That’s when the Sex and the City movie lost a little allure for me. It sends out the wrong message to women who allow men to treat them badly, that one day if they are patient enough, they will turn around and realise that you were the one. In reality, it’s highly unlikely that you will end up in the top ten.
Lyndsey Rodrigues has appeared in a magazine shoot for Maxim magazine wearing a swimsuit what best can be described by Confidential as ‘a piece of black dental floss’. Whilst Lyndsey is undoubtedly beautiful, I’m not sure appearing half naked in a men’s magazine which is normally the domain of wanna be celebrities, reality tv stars and B grade actresses who want to revive their dying career, is quite the right path for her.
